Files
CampaignUltraq20b.exe (4.04MB)
- 32-bit Windows installer for Campaign Ultraq 2.0b (if you're installing on a 64-bit version of Windows, see the section below for a workaround to a common problem)
- Contains the files necessary to play both parts of the campaign
(If you're in need of a non-executable version (eg: you're on a different OS), let me know.)
CampaignUltraqSaves.zip (7.55MB)
- Containing savegames for most missions in both parts of the campaign (not included are the missions which are dependant on your progress in previous missions) Download this package if a mission doesn't complete when it should (it happens sometimes) and you want to skip straight passed it.
- The saves are right at the beginning of the mission, however, I recommend restarting the mission after loading so that you get the briefing as well as any 0-second messages
A note for users running 64-bit versions of Windows
The install program makes use of old MS-DOS programs which don't play well with 64-bit Windows. Those programs were just patches to ensure that users have a version of Red Alert that can play my campaign.
To get around this, make sure the version of Red Alert you have is at least 1.08. The common workaround for installing Red Alert on 64-bit Windows is to use the Red Alert Setup Manager which has an option to patch Red Alert for you to at least version 1.08. Select that option, or the next option to patch it to 3.03, when installing Red Alert.
Next, run the Campaign Ultraq installer. You'll get the 64-bit errors, but the installer will put an Ultraq subdirectory in your Red Alert folder. Go to that folder and edit the CampaignUltraq.bat file. On the lines that read:
Patch.exe >nul PatchMM.exe >nul
Change them so they read:
rem Patch.exe >nul rem PatchMM.exe >nul
Save your changes, then run the installer again. The running of those old MS-DOS patch programs will be skipped, and installation should complete successfully.
Known Bugs
Save/Load
In many missions, loading seems to be a problem. You can save many times, but when you load, the game crashes. It is possible to load your game just by restarting Red Alert and loading from the title screen. While this workaround is effective, this bug is proving to be an inconvenience to many players, including myself. However, I have never been able to locate the cause of this problem and thus, have no idea how to fix it.
Mission Selection
I've been told that this campaign crashes at the mission selection screen after certain missions. I have been able to replicate this problem and have pinned it down to the following: if you don't save the game during the mission, the next mission selection screen will crash on you. So my advice, SAVE OFTEN! This will also help should the bug noted above be a problem.
Needs CD
When using FullRA, it sometimes asks for the CD. I'm told that this is actually a bug in the 'no CD' patch that is applied to FullRA to make it operate without the CD. I'm also told that to get around this, you can put ANY CD into the CD-ROM drive. Yep, just any CD, RA, your favourite album, or otherwise.
Revision History
Version 2.0b (Oct 2005, updated Mar 2006)
- PlanetCNC Public release
- Less crashes when using FullRA (still not as stable as the original RA unfortunately)
- Minor updates to several missions from feedback of RATC release
- Fixed crash upon selection of The Price Of Freedom (Mar 06)
Version 2.0a (Jun 2005)
- Red Alert TechCenter Forum test release
- 'Humanity's Exodus' campaign added, acting as the continuation of Campaign Ultraq
- Massive changes to the Rules.ini file, too many to list! Just play the game and you'll figure it all out
- New Inno Setup Installer interface, so installation should be a breeze, and now work on WinXP systems!
Campaign Ultraq 2.0 includes the original 'The Battle Between Good And Evil' missions, and implements fixes for all known bugs since 1.3.
So you can delete all those 1.x files and patches: the Campaign Ultraq 2.0 installer is the only file you'll need!
